Updated: Sep 8, 2022

As the judges of the Minnesota Cup competition winnow down competition entrants from over 800 to the final 9 divisions winners in the coming weeks for the 2022 competition in September, patents become increasingly valuable as a component in selecting finalists. Why? Well, irrespective of the commercial merit of the product invented, our American inventors have furthered the technological know-how for everyone by detailing their invention in their patent. Publishing this know-how is precisely what our Founding Fathers wanted: to advance our nation technologically with every invention in exchange for receiving a limited term monopoly in the USA. Each subsequent inventor builds on the ideas and innovations of predecessors, the commercial incentive accelerating innovation in the US and around the World.

Even though Edison made most of his money in the US on his light bulb, eventually the whole World adopted light bulbs. US innovation starts on our shores, but the benefits are widespread. So, for many of you MN Cup participants, it’s still not too late to file for your utility and design patents and trademarks, because in the America our Founding Fathers still gave us a little leg up! Reach out to us and we will gladly tell you the rest of the story.
